When does my responsibility for the package begin?
Your responsibility for the package officially begins the moment you physically receive it. Legally and practically, the boundary is at the transfer from the carrier to the customer.
However, there are three specific scenarios where the responsibility transfers at a different time:
1. Delivery to your home address
Once the delivery person hands the package to you, the risk is yours. From that moment, you are responsible for the condition of the product.
- Tip: Do you notice significant damage to the box upon transfer? Then you can refuse the package at the door. The delivery person will then take it back to us immediately.
2. Pickup at a collection point
When your order is delivered to a collection point, the responsibility lies with the delivery service and the manager of the point until you pick it up.
- Once you have signed for receipt or accepted the package at the counter, your responsibility begins.
- Note: If you do not pick up the package within the storage period (usually 7 days) and it is returned to us, you are responsible for the additional costs of a new shipping attempt.
3. Drop-off permission (Important exception)
This is the only moment where you advance the responsibility. When you give the delivery service permission to leave the package in an unattended place (for example, under a porch or in the garden):
- Your responsibility begins the moment the delivery person places the package there.
- If the package is then stolen or damaged by the weather, the risk is yours and no longer with the carrier or us.
What falls under your responsibility?
Once you have the package in your hands, you are responsible for:
- Checking for damage: Check the product immediately upon receipt. Damage reported only days later is more difficult to claim from the carrier.
- Safe keeping: If you decide to return the item, you must take care of it as a 'good householder.' This means the product must not be used and must remain in its original condition.
Return shipment: If you return a package, you are responsible for the shipment until it has arrived back at our warehouse. Therefore, always keep your shipping receipt safe.
