Why isn’t VAT deducted directly in your shopping cart when you order more than £135?
It's true that the VAT rules for shipments to Great Britain change once you go above a certain amount. Here’s how prices are displayed on the website and in your shopping cart:
The £135 threshold
UK customs law makes a distinction based on the order value:
- Orders under £135: For these orders, Celtic WebMerchant is required to collect 20% UK VAT at checkout. You pay the VAT directly to us, so you usually won’t have to pay any extra VAT to customs when your order arrives.
- Orders over £135: For larger orders, VAT is not collected by us. Instead, you’ll pay the VAT (and any import duties) directly to UK customs or the carrier when your package enters the country.
When will you see the price change?
The prices you see on the product pages include VAT. The automatic adjustment only happens during checkout:
- VAT is only finally deducted in the checkout (the last step of the order process).
- This happens when you enter your UK shipping address and the system recognizes that your order value is over £135.
Please note: If you order more than £135 and VAT is deducted at checkout, keep in mind that after shipping, you’ll receive an email from the carrier (such as UPS, FedEx, or DPD) regarding UK VAT and administration fees.
We recommend checking your tracking daily after your order has shipped.
