How do you know how much import duty you have to pay on a product?

Are you ordering from outside the European Union (for example, from the United States, Canada, or Norway)? Then import duties, customs fees, and administrative costs may be charged by the customs of your country.

Who determines the amount of these costs?

Celtic WebMerchant has no influence on these additional costs. The rates are determined by the local government and customs of the country where the package is sent. These costs are not included in the price of the products or the shipping costs in our webshop.

What can you do to find out the costs?

If you want to know exactly what additional costs you should consider, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Consult the website of the local customs: Each country has an official website where the rates for different product categories (such as clothing, steel, or decoration) are listed.
  2. Use an online import calculator: There are various reliable websites that can provide an estimate based on the value of your order and the type of product.
  3. Contact the carrier: Major postal services (such as UPS or PostNL) can often inform you about the average administrative costs they charge for handling the clearance.

Responsibility

Please note that you as the importer (the customer) are responsible for paying these duties. Refusing a package due to unexpected customs fees may lead to additional return costs that will be deducted from the purchase amount.
