VAT & import
At Celtic WebMerchant, we deliver worldwide to history enthusiasts. Since we ship from the Netherlands (within the European Union), specific rules apply for the calculation and invoicing of VAT. Below you will find all the information you need. 1. How is VAT calculated on the website? On our product pages, you will see prices including VAT by default. To see the exact price for your specific location, it is essential that you use the location selector at the top right of the website. Within the EU: Once you select your country, you will see the price including the specific VAT rate applicable in your country. No additional tax will be added in the shopping cart. Outside the EU: For countries outside the European Union, we often display prices excluding VAT. In that case, you do not pay the tax to us, but to the customs of your own country upon import. 2. VAT rates per country within the EU When you order within the EU, we calculate VAT based on the rate in the destination country (the destination principle). Below you will find an overview of the standard VAT rates for our most chosen shipping regions: Netherlands - 21% Belgium - 21% Germany - 19% France - 20% Austria - 20% Italy - 22% Spain - 21% Denmark / Sweden - 25% Note: For some product groups, such as books, a reduced rate may apply. 3. Orders to Great Britain (UK) Special rules apply for the United Kingdom based on the threshold amount of £135: Orders under £135: We collect the 20% UK VAT directly at checkout. You pay this to us, and we remit it to the UK tax authorities (HMRC). Orders over £135: VAT is deducted from the total amount at checkout. You pay the VAT and any import duties only when the package crosses the UK border via the carrier. 4. Import duties and customs fees (Outside the EU) Do you live outside the EU (such as in the US, Norway, or Switzerland)? Then you are responsible for the import regulations. Duty of inquiry: It is the customer's responsibility to check in advance what costs apply for importing goods from the Netherlands. Our address details are always in the footer of the website. Administrative costs: The carrier often charges a fee for handling the VAT declaration. These 'handling fees' are not covered by our free shipping costs and are always the customer's responsibility. 5. Downloading a VAT invoice The order confirmation is not an official fiscal document. You can download your official VAT invoice in two ways: Via your account: Log in, go to 'Orders', click on the order, and look under the 'VAT invoices' section. Via the confirmation email: Click on the 'View your order' button in your email. On the status page, you can download the invoice under the 'VAT invoices' section. 6. Business purchases You can enter a different billing address during checkout. The official VAT invoice is always made out in the name listed under 'Billing address'. Enter your VAT number at checkout for correct administrative processing (intra-community delivery) within the EU.
