I wanted my package to be delivered to my home, but it was delivered to a pickup point instead?

It's certainly an adjustment if you were expecting delivery to your door and now have to go out to pick up your product. This can have various causes, often related to the logistical choices of the delivery service.

Below we explain why this happens:

Why was my package taken to a pickup point?

  • Not at home at the time of delivery: This is the most common reason. If the courier found a closed door and couldn't leave the package with the neighbors, it is taken to a nearby parcel shop. This way, you don't have to wait for a new delivery attempt the next day.
  • Inaccessible address: Sometimes a courier cannot easily reach your home, for example, due to roadworks, a defective intercom system at an apartment complex, or a closed-off area. In that case, the driver chooses the safest option: the pickup point.
  • Direct delivery to pickup point by the carrier: Some international carriers choose to take packages directly to a pickup point during busy times instead of running a door-to-door route. This often happens to increase efficiency and ensure that the package is still "delivered" that day.
  • Choice of the local partner: As previously discussed, we hand over the package to an international carrier who then hands it over to a local party in your country. It may be that the standard procedure of this local partner differs from what you are used to, and they routinely use pickup points for certain neighborhoods or types of shipments.

What can you do now?

  1. Check the tracking: View the tracking environment of the local delivery service. It often specifically states why the package went to a pickup point (for example: "Recipient not at home").
  2. Pick up: The package is now ready for you. Don't forget to bring your ID.
  3. Future deliveries: With many delivery services, you can set a "delivery preference" via their app or website. Here you can, for example, indicate that the package can always be delivered to a specific neighbor or in a safe place around your house, to prevent it from going to a pickup point next time.

Although we outsource delivery to professional partners, we understand that this is not the experience you had in mind. If you really cannot pick up the package yourself due to a physical limitation or lack of transport, please contact the customer service of the relevant delivery service to ask if a second attempt at home is still possible.
