I live in the United Kingdom and have purchased a weapon. What can I expect?

Have you ordered a sword or another type of bladed item? Due to strict legislation in the United Kingdom, there are a few extra steps required to receive your package safely and on time.

1. Why is my order shipped via UPS?

All orders containing a blade (such as swords, knives, or axes) are shipped via UPS. This is necessary to comply with transport regulations for these types of items and to ensure safe delivery.

2. What is the 'Sword Declaration' form?

UPS may contact you via email to request a sword declaration form. This document is required for customs clearance. You will also receive an email from Celtic WebMerchant with this form upon ordering, so you can fill it out in advance and send it directly to UPS.

  • What should I do? Download the form, follow the yellow highlighted instructions, print it out, scan the signed document, and save it on your computer.
  • Why fill it out in advance? By having the form ready, you can respond immediately when UPS requests it. This prevents delays.

3. I didn't order a sword, but another type of weapon. Do I need to fill out the form?

Usually, UPS only requests a declaration for swords. However, for other sharp objects, UPS may still request it. Therefore, we recommend filling out the form just in case, so you are not caught by surprise.

4. What happens if I don't send the form?

Without the completed form, customs cannot release the package.

  • The package will remain at the UPS depot in Stanford-le-Hope.
  • The delivery date will be continuously postponed.
  • UPS may charge additional fees for storage or administration. Note: these extra costs and any delays are the responsibility of the recipient.

5. UPS sent me the wrong form (e.g., for firearms). What now?

Sometimes UPS accidentally sends a form intended for antiques or firearms. In that case, you can inform UPS that this form is not applicable and instead send the completed sword declaration you have filled out.

6. What about UK weapon legislation?

The main rules from the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 are:

  • Age: Supplying weapons to persons under 18 is prohibited. UPS therefore conducts an age check (18+) upon delivery. Keep your ID ready!
  • Possession: Possessing a (blunt or sharp) weapon is not prohibited in principle.
  • Curved swords: It is prohibited to import curved swords (such as katanas or sabers) with a blade longer than 50 cm.

Important: Celtic WebMerchant does not ship curved swords to the UK that exceed 50 cm. Nevertheless, it remains the buyer's responsibility to check whether the ordered item complies with local legislation.
