What happens if I refuse to pay import fees?

When you decide not to pay the import duties, VAT, or handling fees, the delivery service cannot hand over the package to you. This has the following consequences:

1. The package is held or returned

The customs or the delivery service holds the package for several days in a depot. If payment is not made, the package will eventually be returned to Celtic WebMerchant. In some countries outside the EU, customs may even choose to destroy the package if the fees are not paid.

2. Deduction of incurred costs

If the package returns to us because you refused payment, it is not considered a regular return shipment. The following costs will be deducted from your refund:

  • Shipping costs: The costs we incurred to send the product to you.
  • Return costs: The costs charged to us by the delivery service for returning the package.
  • Customs costs: Any administrative fines or export costs charged to the sender (us) by customs.

3. Risk of loss

Packages refused at customs have a lower priority with delivery services. The return process can take many weeks, and the risk of damage or loss during this unplanned transport is higher.

Our advice

Avoid unnecessary costs and disappointments. We recommend that you pay the fees and accept the package.

Note: Not knowing the amount of import duties is not a valid reason for a full refund upon refusal. As the importer, you are responsible for this.
